Exercise Body Surface Potential Mapping in Single and Multiple Coronary Artery Disease: Results (Part 1)

The exercise tolerance test data of the 51 CAD patients are presented in Table 2 and that of the normal control subjects in Table 3. The average peak exercise heart rates were not different among the five study groups and averaged, overall, 99 beats/min (Tables 2 and 3).
The ST segment isointegral maps of a representative patient with single-vessel CAD are shown in Figure 2. This patient (patient 5; Table 1), whose analog 12-lead electrocardiograms are illustrated in Figure 1, had total occlusion of the left anterior descending artery and a relatively high modified Gensini score. He had a total body surface decrease in ST integral values (sum ST decrease) of — 9,043 mV*s from rest to immediate cessation of exercise (Fig 2). The BSPMs of a patient with three-vessel CAD are illustrated in Figure 3. This patient (patient 35; Table 1) had 75 percent obstruction of the left anterior descending artery and total obstruction of the right and circumflex arteries. His modified Gensini score was very similar to patient 5 (Table 1). This patient had the greatest degree of ST integral decrease from rest to cessation of exercise, —11,214 mV*s, of any study subject (Fig 3; Table 2). Like all CAD patients, this patient had lessened, but persistent, ST integral decrease at 5 min of recovery (-3,478 mV*s; Fig 3).
